History of Kalevala
In the 1930s, author Elsa Heporauta wanted to erect a statue to celebrate Finnish women. Other successful women were inspired by the idea and decided to start making and selling jewelry inspired by Viking Age jewelry.
In 1937, the first collection was launched.
The new jewelry collection became very popular, but due to the Winter War that broke out at the time, it was decided that instead of spending money on a statue, the funds would be used for charity. This laid the foundation for charity being an important value in the company and thus the Kalevala Women's Association was founded. A cultural organization that still owns Kalevla Jewelry.

Author Elsa Heporauta (1883-1960)
Kalevala Jewelry is still at the forefront of jewelry making today. New technologies are constantly combined with the precise craftsmanship of goldsmiths. All jewelry is still made by hand in Finland.
Elsa Heporauta's dream was finally realized. The statue, a tribute to the Finnish woman, stands today in the factory area of Kalevala Jewelry in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki.
The entire history of Kalevala Jewelry is actually a tribute to the Finnish woman. The company was founded by women and is owned by the Kalevala Women's Association. Kalevala Jewelry has always been led by skilled women at the helm.
